SECRETARY GENERAL’S OFFICIAL WORKING VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND

NEW ZEALAND, 14 March 2024 –  Secretary General, YBhg. Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, embarked on an Official Working Visit to New Zealand from the 12th to the 15th of March. This visit marks his inaugural official visit to the country since assuming the position of Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence in September 2023.

During his visit, YBhg. Datuk Seri chaired the 16th Malaysia-New Zealand Senior Executives’ Meeting (MNZSEM), focusing on bilateral defence relations between Malaysia and New Zealand. Discussions encompassed the two nations' participation in the Five-Nation Defence Arrangement (FDPA), Indo-Pacific Security, and bilateral defence cooperation. Both leaders emphasized their dedication to further enhancing defence collaboration between their respective nations.

Furthermore, he conducted a courtesy call on the Vice Chief of Defence, Air Vice-Marshal Tony Davies, where discussions revolved around opportunities to strengthen and enhance cooperation between the Malaysian and New Zealand Defence Forces.

YBhg. Datuk Seri also paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Chief Executive (Policy) of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Ben King, where they exchanged views on issues related to trade between Malaysia and New Zealand.

This visit by the Secretary General holds significant importance in ensuring the continuity and advancement of defence cooperation between Malaysia and its partner nations, aligning with the Third Pillar of the National Defence Policy, Competent Partnership, as outlined in the Defence White Paper.
