PORT DICKSON, 12 March 2023 – The Malaysian Army organized a tattoo performance and the 2023 Malaysian Army Open Day Carnival at the Army Basic Training Centre, Port Dickson on the 11th and 12th March 2023, in conjunction with this year’s 90th Malaysian Army Celebration Day.
Tattoo is an entertainment show that combines music, marches and shows that display the skills and expertise of the army personnel. Initially, the tattoo performance only consists of band performances from army personnel to the public who are close to the army camps to foster good relations between the public and the army to enhance peace and stability.
As time goes by, tattoo performance has evolved and been implemented on a larger scale. Today, the tattoo performance is done at a larger open space and has commercial value to attract the public and tourists’ interest. Tattoo performances are frequently carried out in Malaysia. For example, there is the 2014 KL International Tattoo at Stadium Merdeka, 2014 Army Tattoo at Port Dickson, KL International Tattoo at Bukit Jalil and the 2020 Army Tattoo at Likas Stadium, Sabah.
The army tattoo that will be held is a set of performances that consist of shows that displays the army’s skills and expertise in groups, and the Malaysian Army’s attire that consists of concepts such as bands, silent marching, war dances and drum liner. Apart from that, the army tattoo also exhibits the elite commandos’ expertise, and the army’s assets such as war dogs. Additionally, the skills of the Red Warrior Army Team which is the Army Acrobatic Motorcycle Team will be showing numerous captivating stunt moves using the motorcycle.
In conjunction with the Malaysian Army tattoo, the Malaysian Army Open Day Carnival was also held to exhibit the army’s assets and profession, expertise performances for Improvised Explosive Device (IED), Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC), Survival Skills, Battlefield Meals Demonstration and Combat Rations, Health and Dental Services and Entertainment Shows from the Malaysia Army Culture Troupe (BKTD).
For this year’s speciality, the Army Acrobatic Motorcycle Team will attempt a new record for the Malaysian Book of Records, specifically for Most People Riding on A Motorcycle and Longest Motorcycle Jump (Female) category which will be attempted by Sgt. Saidatul Husna binti Kamaruddin. There will also be three lucky prizes for the spectators. The opening and closing ceremony for the army tattoo will be on the 11th and 12th of March 2023, and can be witnessed by all Malaysians through the Malaysian Army’s official Facebook live stream and Negeri FM radio station, the official broadcaster.
Also present is the Defence Minister, YB Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Deputy Defence Minister, YB Adli bin Zahari, Chief Minister of Negeri Sembilan, YAB Dato’ Seri Haji Aminuddin bin Harun, Chief of Defence Forces, General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Affendi bin Buang RMAF, Secretary General for the Ministry of Defence, Ybhg Dato’ Sri Muez bin Abd Aziz and Deputy Chief of Royal Malaysian Navy, Lieutenant General Datuk Seri Mohammad bin Ab Rahman.
