CAMBODIA, June 22, 2022 – The 16th ADMM is a significant platform for ASEAN Defence Ministers to further strengthen the spirit of ASEAN togetherness, especially in the context of defence cooperation.

The Senior Defence Minister, Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, led the Malaysian delegation to the 16th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) in Phnom Penh today.

As in previous years, ADMM is regarded as the best platform for Malaysia to express its views and stand on various defence issues in the interest of ASEAN security and Malaysia in general.

In addition, the ADMM is followed by the Asean-China Defence Ministers’ Informal Meeting and the Asean-Japan Defence Ministers’ Informal Meeting, both focusing on efforts to further strengthen regional defence cooperation.

At the same time, the Senior Defence Minister, Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Hussein paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

The Senior Defence Minister also held a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, to further enhance defence cooperation in conducting peacekeeping operations across the world, especially the participation of women peacekeepers in ASEAN.

An agreement was made during the bilateral meeting for Cambodia to send its female peacekeepers to the Malaysia Peacekeeping Centre in Port Dickson for training and to further develop their capabilities in carrying out peacekeeping operations.
