SINGAPORE, February 16, 2022 – The Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Affendi Buang RMAF, was conferred Singapore’s highest military award, the Distinguished Service Order (Military), by President Halimah Yacob at the Istana Singapura, here today.

The award was conferred for his significant contributions towards enhancing defence cooperation between the Armed Forces of both nations through various bilateral military exercises such as Exercise Malapura, Exercise SEMANGAT BERSATU, Exercise SAREX MALSING, along with several official visits, military personnel exchange programmes, and joint professional military courses.

Earlier, the Chief of the MAF inspected a guard of honour and called on his counterpart, the Chief of Defence Force, Singapore Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong, as well as their Defence Minister, Dr Ng Eng Hen, at the Ministry of Defence, Singapore. The visits aim to reaffirm the long-standing bilateral defence relations between Malaysia and Singapore, along with discussing both countries’ responses to common regional security challenges.

After the ceremony, General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Affendi Buang also called on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana to strengthen defence relations and demonstrate a strong commitment to bilateral defence cooperation between the nations.

During his working visit to Singapore, he also had the opportunity to visit defence exhibition booths in conjunction with the Singapore Air Show 2022 at Changi Exhibition Centre.

Together with the MAF Chief was his wife and the Chairperson of the MAF BAKAT Supreme Council, Tengku Puteri Seri Teja Puan Sri Hajjah Tengku Muhaini binti Almarhum Sultan Hj Ahmad Shah.
