BUTTERWORTH, June 20, 2020 - Defence Minister, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob made his first trip to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Butterworth air base here since he was appointed to the post in March.
The work visit is a manifestation of his mandate focusing on the ministry's four directions including strengthening assets and weapons, improving technologies used by RMAF in line with technological advancement and also improving the well-being and welfare of those in the armed forces.
He was welcomed by RMAF chief, Gen Datuk Seri Ackbal Abdul Samad and accompanied by Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican as well as the Defence Ministry's secretary-general Datuk Muez Abd Aziz.
He was given a briefing by Butterworth air base commander Brig Gen Shaiful Azuar Ariffin on its operations, infrastructure development planning including the Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) residence, and also the difficulties and challenges faced by the base operator.
The minister was also taken for a static display of the F/A-18D Hornet and Hawk jets and the EC 725 AP helicopter.
He also observed the Hawk Full Mission Simulator and Hornet Tactical Operational Flight Trainer before trying the simulators himself.
Standard operating procedures (SOP) during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) were also observed including applying hand sanitizers and also recording body temperature of visitors throughout the visit.
